The Graphic Communications International Union(GCIU) is now known as the Printing, Packaging & Productions Workers Union (PPPWU) The GCIU was the product of a series of mergers between five predecessor craft unions: the Amalgamated Lithographers of America {ALA); the International Photo Engravers Union (IPEU); the International Brotherhood of Bookbinders (IBB); the International Printing Pressmen and Assistants' Union (IPPAU); and the International Stereotypers and Electrotypers Union (ISEU). The PPPWU represents U.S. and Canadian workers in all craft and skill areas in the printing and publishing industry. PPPWU members work in desktop publishing and digital color pre-press. They operate web and sheetfed, rotogravure, offset silkscreen and other specialty presses. They handle binding, and shipping of finished products. They produce inks, paper, and materials made of paper, plastic, card board, and metal. PPPWU members are also journalists, graphic artists, typesetters, sales people, and support staff.
